On June 13, 2017, Canadian company representatives could find out more about Eastern Germany’s thriving cleantech sector at the “Cleantech Cluster Opportunities in Eastern Germany” investor event in Toronto.

The event was officially opened by Iris Gleicke, Parliamentary State Secretary and Federal Government Commissioner for the New Federal States. Experts from Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) and the WindNODE consortium gave an overview of Germany’s ambitious Energiewende (“Energy Transition”). Markus Graebig form WindNODE introduced the showcase project aiming at an efficient integration of large-scale renewable energy capacity, power grids and energy users using digital networks in the new federal states. Afterwards, Heiko Staubitz (GTAI) concentrated on business opportunities in the German energy market and support offered by GTAI. Finally, Sankar DasGupta (Electrovaya) shared his company’s positive experiences in investing in a lithium-ion battery factory in the federal state of Saxony.

Representatives of GTAI, WindNODE, Cleantech Initiative Eastern Germany, and the economic development agencies of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt were available for questions and provided more information.
