Germany Trade & Invest was once again the German Embassy's official partner for the annual Day of German Unity reception in Washington D.C..

On October 5th, 2016 about 2,500 guests have been invited to enjoy an exclusive evening program. In his welcome address, the German Ambassador Dr. Peter Wittig emphasized that the Day of German Unity was also a time to remember that this accomplishment would not have been possible without the support of the American people, most importantly its political leaders. "German Unity was only possible because our allies and neighbors had faith in us right from the very beginning and without reservation," Wittig said. Four German Olympians were the special guests at this evening: javelin gold medalist Thomas Röhler, canoe sprint silver medalists Tina Dietze and Franziska Weber, and relay runner Gina Lückenkemper. Ambassador Wittig called the Olympic Games in Rio a truly global event that not only connects people but that also overcomes division. Guests at the garden party enjoyed the sounds of the US Air Force band Max Impact, while in the beer garden the Bundeswehr Musikkorps kept things traditional and festive. The delicious menu offered guests a culinary tour through Germany, featuring different regions and of course among other specialites, Bratwurst and German beer.

During the entire evening, Germany Trade & Invest welcomed interested guests at an information booth and provided information and brochures on the promising business potentials for US companies in Eastern Germany. Representatives of the business development corporation of Bavaria, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt were also present and helped to answer questions regarding investment opportunities in Germany.

A special VIP engaged with guests in the Ambassador’s Residence. A hologram of Martin Luther, specially created by the German National Tourist Office in honor of the 500th anniversary in 2017 of the beginning of the Protestant Reformation, interacted with people and may even have surprised a few.
